Greg & Bobby on the set of TV show Neighbours
Neighbours Canine Star
We were approached to use one of our Cairns to replace Audrey, the Cairn Terrier who sadly died of cancer, for her final scenes in the TV show Neighbours. Initially photos of our 9 year old male Bobby (Aus Ch Benannand Take Note) were e-mailed to Christine from Animal Actors and later she came and met him in person. She was pleased with his colour, temperament and general appearance, although his coat was much shorter than Audrey, so we agree to not touch it for a while and let it grow as long as possible before the scenes were shot.
After several weeks and a bit of basket and couch ‘training’ we took Bobby to the studio for his big day fully aware he had huge shoes to fill!! When we arrived we were made to feel very welcome and many cast and crew came up to give Bobby a pat. Initially we were taken into a huge studio to get Bobby used to the environment of cameras, sets, leads, lights, crew and actors.
Later we took him into another studio where the set for his scenes were being filmed. In the lounge room of Audrey’s on screen owners – the Kennedy’s. Now was the moment of truth!! Was he going to run around silly, bark or even worse relieve himself?!! We need not have worried- he sat in the basket and on the couch for 3 or 4 scenes looking quiet and calm just like a ‘sick’ dog should- even put his head down on his paws a few times – what a ham!! The only time he moved out of place was when some food was brought near him – typical Cairn – it was mentioned this was just what Audrey would have done too. After an interesting day for us all we took our canine ‘star’ home and look forward to seeing his couple of minutes of fame on Neighbours in early 2012.
